5 Simple Tips to Make Your Lash Extensions Last Longer
Lash extensions are a beauty choice, with the right care, they can last longer and look amazing. Here are five easy tips to extend the life of your lash extensions!
1.) Avoid Water and Steam for the First 24 Hours
The first 24 hours after your lash appointment are crucial. The adhesive needs time to cure, so avoid getting your lashes wet, including exposure to steam, sweat, and humidity. Skipping hot showers and saunas right after your appointment will help the glue properly bond to your natural lashes.
2.) Clean Your lashes Daily
Keeping your lash extensions clean is key to retention. Use an oil-free lash cleanser and a soft brush to remove oil, dirt, and makeup residue. A debris buildup can weaken the glue's bond and lead to infections like blepharitis. A clean lash line promotes healthier, longer-lasting lashes. A few products Amy Wong recommends for face moisturizers are presented below:
"Try these oil-free eye creams that are still efficacious but safe for lash extensions." (Wong)
3.) Sleep On Your Back
Sleeping on your stomach or side may lead to your extensions bending, twisting, flipping, or shedding more quickly. If possible, try to sleep on your back. Additionally, using silk or satin pillowcases and sheets can reduce friction, helping to preserve your lashes for a longer period.
4.) Avoid Oil-Based Products
Oil-based products break down the lash adhesive, causing your extensions to shed early. Avoid oil-based makeup removers, cleansers, and moisturizers around your eyes. If you want to keep up with the lash extension routine, you may have to check your products before getting your lash extension service done.
5.) Brush Your Lashes Daily
Following a lash blog created by Bridget Reed, "you will naturally develop a build-up of oils, makeup products (like eyeliner and eyeshadow), dirt, dead skin cells, and even some drainage from your eyes through your tear ducts." Using a clean spoolie to gently brush your lashes every morning will help aid the process of removing such build-up on extensions. This also helps keep them neat, prevents tangling, and removes any loose extensions. Be gentle as aggressive brushing can weaken the bond and lead to fallout.
Bonus Tip: Keep Up with Your Regular Fills
Even when following all 5 of these tips, lash extensions naturally shed with your authentic lashes. Scheduling fills every two to three weeks will keep your lashes looking full, fresh, and flawless.
By following these tips, you too can increase the longevity of your beautiful lash extensions and receive the most bang for your buck. Looking to book a consultation for lash extensions? Feel free to contact me @TheLashMafia._ on Instagram!

I loooove this, as someone who wore lash extensions religiously for years, these are all so important! I know when I first started getting them, I thought taking care of them was a pain, but there is so much benefit to it, plus the life of them is so much longer!
ReplyDeleteI got lash extensions on a regular basis for about a year but I was definitely not good about the home care aspect. Eventually I got on board and when I decided to stop doing it, my lashes felt much healthier then when I had gotten them a couple years prior! Do you feel like a specific lash shampoo is necessary or would just a regular type facial cleanser work?
ReplyDeletethis information is actually so helpful ive never gotten lash extension but have been wanting them so i love the amount of information you put in this including the fact that we will have build up and how to get rid of that, i also love that you mentioned oil based products because alot of people wouldnt think about if their skin care is water or oil based at least I havnt ahahaa
ReplyDeleteThank you, I found this very informative. I recently got lash extensions maybe a month and a half ago and I didn’t realize that my skincare or makeup products could affect the longevity of my extensions. I will be now go through all my products to make sure they are water based and not oil based.
